Bowling Green

The fence around Bowling Green is still standing after 250 years. After hearing a reading of the Declaration of Independence in July, 1776, patriots tore down the statue of King George in the middle of the green, then they sawed off the decorative crowns on the fence. You can still see the uneven saw marks on top of the posts like this one.
